Configuration

Most settings live on the dashboard and reach a connected server straight away. A few live in the plugin’s config.yml, because they’re enforced on your server whatever the Director says.

Dashboard settings

Setting Default What it does
Cruelty Fair How hard the god pushes. Details below.
What the god can read Only /pray What the Director is allowed to see. Match it with chat-mode in config.yml.
Rating Everyone Teen allows mild language in what the god says.
Min. players 1 Nothing happens below this many players online.
Hour cap 40 Active hours per month that use AI. Past the cap the god keeps going on its built-in story recipes.
Season length 28 days How long a season runs before the finale.
Quiet hours off Hours when the god stays silent: no new events, taunts or prayer answers. Set a start, an end and your time zone.
Discord webhook none Where the weekly Chronicle goes.
Paused off Stops anything new from happening. Same as /overgod pause.

Cruelty

Gentle Fair Ruthless
Raids never about one an hour about two an hour
Overgod mobs per player 4 8 14
Largest group 4 8 12
Curses none mild: slowness, mining fatigue, hunger, glowing, weakness, bad luck every curse, including blindness, darkness and levitation

Every level keeps the hard limits: levitation never lasts more than 8 seconds, blindness and darkness 20, and no curse longer than two minutes. Ops can change cruelty in game with /overgod cruelty <level>.

Plugin config.yml

director-url: "wss://director.overgod.app" # the hosted Director
world-id: "" # filled in by /overgod link
token: "" # filled in by /overgod link

chat-mode: commands # off | commands | full
safe-zone-radius: 48 # no Overgod mobs this close to world spawn
safe-zones: [] # extra no-mob areas
max-overgod-entities: 40 # hard cap, whatever the Director asks for
first-join-notice: "..." # shown once per player (MiniMessage)

After editing, run /overgod reload.

chat-mode

This is the real privacy gate: the plugin never sends what it isn’t allowed to.

  • off: nothing a player types leaves the server, not even prayers.
  • commands: only /pray. The default.
  • full: all chat, so the god can react to what people say. Tell your players if you turn this on.

safe-zones

Protect a town or a build area:

safe-zones:
  - { world: world, x: 120, z: -340, radius: 64 }
  - { world: world_nether, x: 0, z: 0, radius: 32 }

Overgod never spawns mobs inside a safe zone. Its mobs can’t break blocks, start fires, open doors, trample farmland or hurt anything but players, anywhere.

Run your own Director

The Director is a Node.js service, and you can run it yourself instead of using ours, for example to load your own gamemaster packs.

cd director
npm install
npx tsx src/cli.ts world add our-smp --gm warlord
npx tsx src/cli.ts serve

world add prints the plugin’s world-id and token and a dashboard host key, each shown once. When self-hosting, set director-url in config.yml to your Director (ws://host:8787, or wss:// behind TLS).

Variable Default What it does
OVERGOD_PORT 8787 WebSocket and HTTP port
OVERGOD_DATA ./data Where worlds, memory and Chronicles are stored
OVERGOD_PACKS ../packs Gamemaster and expansion packs
OVERGOD_PROVIDER anthropic if a key is set, else offline offline, anthropic or openai-compatible
ANTHROPIC_API_KEY Uses claude-haiku-5-5 unless OVERGOD_MODEL says otherwise
OVERGOD_LLM_BASE_URL For openai-compatible, e.g. a local Ollama at http://127.0.0.1:11434/v1
OVERGOD_LLM_API_KEY Key for that endpoint, if it needs one
OVERGOD_MODERATION_KEY Adds an OpenAI moderation check on top of the built-in filter

With no AI configured, the Director runs entirely on the packs’ story recipes. It costs nothing and never goes quiet.
